Our History

I'm Monique Kofsky, an entrepreneur, wife, biochemist, and mom.

I’ve always been passionate about gentle, natural skincare, and after years of searching for a toxin free solution for my sensitive skin, I decided to take matters into my own hands. By marrying ancient soap-making traditions with modern scientific knowledge, I created soaps with clean ingredients that effectively sooth and nourish your skin.That’s when I launched Butter & Lye, a small business based in Brooklyn, New York, dedicated to providing top-quality, nontoxic solutions for sensitive skin.
